Mandate And Purpose

The Indigenous Centre of Excellence for Mineral Development (ICEMD) focuses on research and development of leading practices, information gathering and reporting on various mining initiatives that will help build the capacity of Indigenous people with respect to the mining industry in Canada and assist industry and government by supporting increased awareness of protocols for Indigenous engagement, consultation and consent.

Vison

To be the primary source of knowledge and resources to ensure the meaningful participation and partnership between Indigenous communities and the mining sector.

Mission

To build capacity in Indigenous communities and support industry and government by providing accessible information, research, tools, training, and guidance that enables informed decision-making and effective engagement across the entire mining lifecycle.

What We Do

ICEMD maintains a database of updated technical, legal and financial information, templates for required documentation, translation assistance for complex technical and historical documents along with leading practices to guide users through stakeholder interactions. Referrals are available for more complex services for Indigenous communities.

ICEMD develops and delivers tools and templates relevant to Indigenous people, the mining industry and the public sector.

Liaison icon sm

Liaison Services

ICEMD provides referral and liaison services to interested Indigenous communities, connecting them to industry and public sector stakeholders. This is a core function and source of value for ICEMD and allow it to serve as a contact point for all three parties. It includes access to opportunities in procurement, employment, training and education.
